Refrigeration industry facing many challenges, namely labor shortage

The impact of the HVAC/R labor shortage continues to grow, which is why the topic became a major point of discussion at the 6th annual ContractingBusiness.com “Refrigeration Roundtable.” The event brings together commercial refrigeration contractors and supermarket executives to discuss subjects related to supermarket refrigeration. While several topics came up this year, the labor shortage quickly took over.

Frank Davis, director of facility engineering for Sprouts, said people in the industry need to change their mentality about how to attract young people.

“Quality of life is more important to [millennials] than money. I don’t think — based on the contractors I deal with — that we’ve made that switch, or recognize it, or are willing to change.”
