Each June, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch celebrates our region’s top companies in a highly anticipated newspaper special edition called Top Workplaces. In 2018, nearly 1,300 companies were nominated for this honor, and 150 winning companies were selected from a wealth of employee nominations and surveys. This process begins with employees responding to print and online stories as well as outreach, which began in early January. Post-Dispatch partner Energage then surveyed 65,397 metro St. Louis employees and compiled lists of the top 25 large (500+ employees), top 50 midsize (150-499 employees), and top 75 small (149 or fewer employees) businesses. The Post-Dispatch highlights and awards these winning companies at a Top Workplaces happy hour event (held June 21), as well as profiling them in the special Sunday Edition on June 24.
George Giudici, President of Crescent Parts (and grandson of founder Cosmo Guidici), says Crescent has an unchanging philosophy when it comes to its employees: “I was asked, as part of an industry video series on generational family business, what motivates me every day to get up and be a part of this business, and my response was, ‘The philosophy that was instilled in me from my father and grandfather: we really want our people to know we care about them – we want them to be comfortable – because if at the end of the day, we are not providing for or employees, then why are we here?’”
“I know that the success of our company is because we continue to attract and retain the most talented people in our industry. We are fortunate to have a balanced mix of seasoned, experienced workers who have chosen to commit to a long-term career with Crescent, blended with a new, dynamic workforce of young talent with the desire to grow with the company, learn all they can about the industry and our company’s vision.”
Being featured in Top Workplaces can be an excellent asset when attracting and vetting new hires. Top workplaces aren’t just those with generous benefits and perks. Enviable benefits are welcome, but it’s often the less heralded attributes such as bosses who listen, inter-department cooperation and meetings that make good use of employees’ time that make workplaces stand out from the crowd. Workplaces that encourage employees’ new ideas, operate with strong values and support employees’ growth also figure high on the list.
Crescent is proud of this regional honor and looks forward to many more years of market expertise, stellar customer service, and attracting the best industry talent.
