There’s no doubt 2017 was a big year for smart home tech. Amazon Echos had a hugely successful holiday season, the amount of devices and appliances becoming “smart” skyrocketed, and the biggest population of home buyers — millennials — also proved themselves to be the biggest adopters of smart home tech. This could be because, according to the National Association of Realtors, smart home features increase the price of the average home by a whopping five percent.
Also encouraging is the fact that 8 in 10 smart home professionals say they saw an increase in smart home tech requests last year. That means more and more HVAC techs, plumbers, and electricians were asked to install and repair smart home products, proof that this once-mysterious technology is increasingly becoming commonplace.
